Matthew Nicholl- Associate Vice President of Global Initiatives:
Nicholl, a pianist, composer and arranger, is a graduate of the University of North Texas.
He joined the faculty of Berklee College of Music in 1996 and was Chair of the Contemporary Writing and Production Department from 2002 until 2016. He is currently the Associate Vice President of Global Initiatives.
Since 1980, Nicholl has worked as a composer/arranger and keyboardist. He has composed soundtracks for films by the National Geographic Society, NASA, the US Postal Service, the Marriott Corporation, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and scored station ID and promotional packages for PBS as well as numerous local television and radio stations. He has provided music for the national advertising campaigns of Maybelline, Radio Shack, Subway Sub Shops, and United Way. He also composed scores to TV spots for the presidential campaigns of Bob Dole, Ronald Reagan, and George H.W. Bush. His music has appeared numerous TV shows, including One Life to Live and The Game.
Nicholl has released several CDs of original compositions, including Windborne, featuring the Dallas Brass, and From Here to There with Grammy-winning bassist Eliot Wadopian. He has produced a series of albums with bassist Michael Farquharson, including Silent Picture, Della by Moonlight, and the soon-to- be-released Carinhoso. He is the author of several books, including Music Notation: Preparing Scores and Parts with Richard Grudzinski and Essential Grooves with Dan Moretti and Oscar Stagnaro. He has been the arranger and musical director for live shows with Rosa Passos, Eva Ayllón, Isaac Delgado, Jorge Drexler, Alejandro Sanz, Ivan Lins, Guinga, Susana Baca, Totó la Mamposina, and Joyce Moreno. He has performed, presented clinics, and taught in North and South America, Europe, and Asia.
